1708 Gallery's Arts for All outreach program engages frequently overlooked segments of our community by providing access to the creative process. Through participatory workshops taught by professional artists and artist-led exhibition tours Arts for All provides individuals with an opportunity to make art an important part of their lives.
We are pleased to have partnered with the clients of several local Richmond organizations whose missions provide support for these often underserved segments of our community. Arts for All projects have engaged the clients of The Daily Planet and the Henrico County Community Services Board who serve individuals experiencing homelessness, The Greater Richmond ARC and ARC’s Camp Baker who serve those affected by physical and developmental disabilities, OAR (Offender Aid and Restoration) of Richmond who serves individuals and families affected by incarceration and Art on Wheels who serves a myriad of communities with limited access to the arts.
Arts for All is funded in part by the Richard and Caroline T. Gwathmey Memorial Trust, the Community Foundation serving Richmond and Central Virginia, and the Garland and Agnes Taylor Gray Foundation.
CURRENT ARTS FOR ALL PROJECT
Workshop Series and Mural Project, Summer 2011
Our latest Arts for All project pairs artist Matthew Shelton, MFA candidate (2012) in VCU’s Department of Painting & Printmaking, with the clients of Richmond’s OAR, who serves individuals and families affected by incarceration. Through a series of workshops focused on investigating public art the group will design and produce a mural on a site for the Richmond community to enjoy. Stay tuned for updates on this project as it progresses.
