The Virginia Invitation Forum for Art Students, THE FORUM, is an invitational outreach program organized by 1708 Gallery for art students from Virginia's colleges and universities. THE FORUM seeks to honor emerging artists with the opportunity to engage in critical art dialogue with members of the art community
Each year, students are nominated by their departments and invited to present their most recent work for critique by their peers, professional artists, curators and community members. These presentations are highlighted by a dialog between the artist and the audience providing unique and informed feedback and perspective. The students also get a chance to participate in an exhibition hosted by Capital One.
THE FORUM 2011
Saturday, April 23, 2011
6:00 to 8:00 p.m., 1708 Gallery

FREE and open to the public
The FORUM provides emerging artists who are currently enrolled in art school an opportunity to participate in a critique where each student presents and discusses their most recent work. The participating students are nominated by their department chair and are invited to give 10 minute presentations, which are followed by feedback from the Forum critic and audience members.
The FORUM seeks to honor these artists with the opportunity to engage in critical art dialogue with members of the art community. This year’s critic is Erling Sjovold, Associate Professor of Art at the University of Richmond.
In addition to participating in the FORUM, the students’ work will be featured in an exhibition at Capitol One on view from May 11 to Spetember 7, 2011.
