February 18, 2011: Opening Reception and Artist Talk
March 4, 2011: First Friday Reception
In an effort to “create a new auto-ethnographic narrative, a new history and a new manifestation for a critical way to understand America,” Natalie Ball creates painted quilts that incorporate antique textiles and reflect on her personal and familial experiences. She will present a group of works that “construct a new visual genealogy that questions the normalized expectations of Native American identity.”
Kimberly Witham’s photographs address “the conflict between suburban sprawl and wildlife habitats.” Inspired by the Victorian practice of photographing the deceased, her art captures the relationship between life and death and between urban development and the decimation of nature.
